Situation A review was requested of the newly developed WMS as part of an overall review of the logistics functions within the Sydney and Melbourne facilities.
Challenge The WMS had been developed in house and was designed to support QANTAS operations and logistics functions. It was also not originally designed to operate on handheld devices.
Response As part of an overall review of logistic functions, the benefits to be gained from improvement in the WMS solution were identified. These benefits were to be delivered as part of a program of improvements supporting improved cost and responsiveness outcomes for the warehousing and maintenance areas.
Outcome Areas for improvement in the functions to be provided in the WMS were provided to QANTAS logistic management for implementation as part of the rollout of the system.
