Employee Motivation Workshop for RSD Branch, Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA)
Client Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA)
Disciplines Training - Organisational.
Situation Remote Service Delivery Branch of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) enable the monitoring of progress toward the Government's "Close the Gap" goals for indigenous health and key measurables. The Branch required a review of structure, staff and operations to ensure alignment with Government requirements. A major part of the review was ensuring alignment between individual skill sets and motivation with organisational outcomes.
Challenge Explore individual, team, manager and organisational motivational fit to ensure effective alignment.
Response The Genos Employee Motivational Assessment (GEMA) instrument provided the basis for participants to review their motivational fit. The GEMA is a comprehensive measure of employee motivational characteristics. Based on extensive psychological research, the GEMA accounts for those factors shown to underpin job satisfaction, employee productivity, and retention.

O2C provided two workshops for all staff using the GEMA. The first workshop outlined the Motivational Fit tool and reviewed the Role Fit component of the tool. The second workshop focussed on the Manager Fit and Organisation Fit components of the tool. Interestingly, there was significant alignment between staff and the organisation with regards to "social responsibility".

Linking these two workshops were team based activities where the Directors led discussions with their staff around Team fit. The purpose of these discussions was for respective teams to identify the common motivating factors that staff desired from their team.
Outcome Considerable positive feedback was received from both staff and managers around the effectiveness of this part of the program to assist individuals with motivational alignment. As a follow-on, a number of staff have accepted the opportunity to consider their motivational alignment in greater detail through coaching style sessions.
