Development of the Program Management Office for the Australian Taxation Office. The Office managed over 130 projects generated out of the Goods and Services Tax and Business Taxation Reform initiatives. This included the staffing, documentation, legislative, process and information technology aspects of managing these projects.

Situation The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) was required to deliver over 130 projects to implement the governments Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Business Tax Reform (BTR) initiatives.
Challenge Develop the infrastructure to support a major government initiative consisting of multiple interconnected projects.
Response With a project team we:
  • Conducted 30 interviews with project managers to develop an inventory of the projects underway including scope, resourcing, interdependencies, and future impact on the ATO
  • Developed documentation and processes for submission of project information to steering committees and project champions
  • Developed a high level strategy chart detailing the major milestones for all of the projects, and their progress towards completion
  • Analysed the existing program structure and provided a plan for the formulate stage.
Outcome Developed a Program Office to manage the projects. This included: documentation; processes; staffing; change management; and information technology solutions.
