| Situation |
The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is the professional
organisation for the Australian library and information services sector. As a peak
body for a diverse and large industry, both the organisation and staff were under
constant pressure from long hours, skilling issues and structural concerns. ALIA
required a strategic approach to the development of a solution addressing structural,
staff and behavioural issues within the workplace. |
| Challenge |
To deliver a program improving the health and well being of ALIA staff, increasing
staff engagement at work, and conducting structural and organisational reform for the
long term benefit of both ALIA and the professional library and information sector. |
| Response |
The O2C facilitation team worked closely with the ALIA executive team to conduct the
necessary structural and organisational reform. A series of staff workshops supported these
changes through explaining the purpose of the change. Staff were also engaged throughout the
process to identify key ALIA values, identify how their behaviours matched these values,
and build resilience through cognitive and other techniques. An evaluation program of pre
and post assessment is designed to identify the impact of the program. Key executives have
also been supported through individual executive coaching to develop their management styles.
O2C has also assisted ALIA with structural reform designed to improve productivity, efficiency
and workplace outcomes. |
| Outcome |
ALIA have made a range of structural and behavioural adjustments. These include creating,
aligning and reviewing their values; conducting ongoing refresher training and executive coaching. |
